UFC goes on FOX 2 in January 2012 featuring Eddie Wineland and Demetrious Johnson – UFC News
After Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) hosted UFC on Fox on November 2011, the UFC management has been in search of opening up new boundaries to telecast their fights. The debut UFC show on Fox in November, featuring Brazilian
mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Junior dos Santos winning the World Heavyweight Championship by beating American MMA fighter Cain Velasquez, was nothing but an extraordinary event.
Dana White, the President of the UFC, announced on November 19, 2011 that UFC would be aired on Fox 2 in 2012. His announcement came when he gave his interview after UFC 139, which itself was a historic event in UFC history. The
event will take place on January 28, 2012 and would feature a fight in the bantamweight division. The bout will be between American mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters Eddie Wineland and Demetrious Johnson.
White also declared that the UFC on Fox 2 will be a two hour event featuring four fights. The venue of the event will be in Chicago, Illinois at the United Center where UFC and MMA fans will witness the second time UFC fights go
on air on Fox network. In August 2011, UFC and the FOX Sports Media Group carried out an agreement under which the Fox network would air UFC fights and programs for the next seven years. Although Fox 1 did air UFC on Fox: Velasquez vs. Dos Santos event on
November 12, 2011, but the official agreement starts from January 2012 and the UFC on Fox 2 event will be the moment when the deal between UFC and Fox would really be implemented.
The terms of the UFC-Fox deal state that the Fox network will have the rights to air UFC’s four events each year for the next seven years. Fox would also air six UFC events on their cable station FX, often abbreviated for Fox Extended.
Talking to the media, White said that, "We put the first fight on Fox, and now we're going with it…The more fights you do, the more chance you have to have one of these (like Shogun-Henderson). We introduced the sport. It's going
to take time, and we're going to have to educate a lot more people…What we're going to do more of on Fox is more storytelling. We're going to explain who these people are and break it down and get deeper into their lives."
