UFC moves Jon Jones vs. Dan Henderson to UFC 148 – UFC News
UFC President Dana White confirmed that the big match between Dan Henderson and Jon Jones has been moved to UFC 148, which will be held on July 7 in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. UFC previously decided to hold the event in Brazil but earlier today
in a press conference, the organization announced its change in plans.
White iterated, “We talked about moving Jose down to this card here. It’s probably going to happen. We’re working on it with his camp right now. Dan Henderson and Jones could be a possibility (for Calgary). Obviously Jones just fought his first five-round
fight. His hands are sore, all the things that go along with coming out of a fight like that. We’ve got to give him a few weeks and see how he feels and then we’ll figure out what the main event is going to be in Calgary. But that would be awesome. If we could
make that fight, that would be great.
Jon Jones defeated Rashad Evans last Saturday at UFC 145 in order to prove his mettle. Evans, Jones’ long term rival who was once his closest friend, had spoken bad of Jones. According to Jones, it was one of the most exhausting lead up to a match. Evans
came up everything he had for Jones. He even spoke about his mental health, his attitude towards life and even called him a coward at several occasions. However, inside the ring, Jones proved who the better is by defeating Evans with a unanimous decision.
Also, it should be noted here that just a day before Jones took Evans down, the UFC had decided to sponsor Jones. The decision had offended many analysts, critics and people from Evans camp. Most critics thought that such a decision could reflect favouritism
of the organization towards a particular fighter. However, Jones denied all the accusations by saying that he the sponsorship is pure business and has nothing to do with whatever happens in the ring.
After defeating Evans, Jones is now preparing to fight Henderson, who is a tougher and more legitimate opponent for the lightweight champion.
