UFC president Dana White speaks about Brock Lesnar's next fight
Ultimate Fighting Championship president Dana White had some interesting things to say during the fan question and answer session before UFC 122.  White commented on what the future may
hold for Brock Lesnar, as well as current UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez.
Velasquez captured the title from Lesnar on 23 October at UFC 121 with a dominating performance. Velasquez bloodied the larger Lesnar with heavy strikes before winning via technical knock-out
in the first round.
As soon as the fight ended, speculation began as to who the next opponents would be for the two fighters.  At the question and answer session, White seemed to put to rest many of the rumours
surrounding Lesnar and Velasquez.
White, perhaps implying that Lesnar needs more seasoning inside the Octagon, had this to say about a possible rematch between Lesnar and Velasquez, “There won’t be an immediate rematch,
there is no need for one. After the fight Brock took some time off to go hunting; he and I haven’t spoken since the fight so I’m not sure what he wants to do next.”
There had been talk that Lesnar had requested his next fight be against Roy “Big Country” Nelson. White dispelled those rumours, saying, “He never asked for Roy Nelson, that’s not true.
The last thing I did hear was that he wants to fight Frank Mir again. That fight kind of makes sense so…we will probably see Lesnar fight Mir next, I think that the rubber match makes sense.”
For his part Frank Mir seems to have no interest in fighting Lesnar, “Right now I’m coming off a win of Mirko (Filipovic), I would maybe like to see me get another win and (Brock) himself
redeem himself, so that way it’s more relevant to the division,” Mir told Bloodyelbow.com.
Mir and Lesnar have met in the Octagon before. Mir took the first of their two battles via a kneebar submission. Lesnar avenged that defeat in July 2009, defeating Mir by second round
TKO.
As far as the champion, White stated that Velasquez would “probably” fight Junior Dos Santos in his first title defence.
White did not offer a date for the potential fights.
