UFC releases Danny Downes from promotion; consecutive defeats major reason – UFC News

In a shocking turn of affairs, the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has released its mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter, Danny Downes from the promotion. Downes, the 25-year-old fighter from Chicago, Illinois, started his professional
MMA career in 2007. Downes became part of the UFC in 2011. He entered the UFC octagon fighting cage for the first time in June 2011 at The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 13 Finale.
He had an unsuccessful debut against Jeremy Stephens by a unanimous decision. Coming into the UFC with a good win record, the UFC officials thought he would perform well. But Downes was not up to the mark. After losing his debut
bout, Downes got ready for his second ever UFC bout. He faced Ramsey Nijem in October 2011. His bout was at the UFC 137 event, which he lost, giving him an uncertain future with the UFC.
Having an impressive run with his MMA career, he had a successful MMA debut in October 2007 against John Lovejoy at GFS: Caged Colosseum event. He won the bout through a knock out with his punches. Downes was undefeated in the
first six fights of his professional MMA career.
He defeated Mike Sandez at GFS: Season’s Beatings in December 2008, Gustavo Rodriguez at Evolution Fighting Championships 6 in January 2009, Jake Omen at GCF event in March 2009, David Kless at GCF event in November 2009 and Bruce
Johnson at King of the Cage (KOTC) event in April 2010.
His first loss in his professional MMA career came in June 2010 at World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) 49 event by the hands of Chris Horodecki. He did win two fights later; one at WEC 53 against Zhang Tiequan in December 2010 and
against Taurean Bogguess in May 2011. With eight wins in his MMA career and three loses, Downes could have had a decent run.
His performances outside the UFC ring were much impressive as compared to the bouts he had inside the UFC ring. His two straight losses were more than enough for the UFC management to realize that he would not give UFC the desired
results. That is why UFC made Downes the latest fighter who was released from the MMA promotion.
Downes said, “Zuffa has exercised its right in to accelerate the term of its promotional and other obligations. In other words I’m cut.” Downes, nicknamed, Danny Boy has been a tough competitor in the fighting ring. Known for his
specializations in Muay Thai and Taekwondo, he used his striking moves and takedown maneuvers to get a dominant stance over his opponents.
