UFC signs deal with MSM to televise UFC bouts across the sub-continent – UFC News
The Ultimate Fighting Championship announced its deal with Multi Screen Media to televise UFC bouts in India and throughout the sub-continent. MSM is a subsidiary of Sony Pictures Television that is now officially a partner of UFC for the Indian region.
UFC events will be televised on MSM’s new sports channel SIX. SIX will be responsible to air live UFC events to Indian MMA fans.
On the occasion, Lorenzo Fertitta, the current chairman of UFC, said, “When we went to India over a year ago I felt the market held enormous potential for the UFC. India has a long history of martial arts and traditional wrestling like Kushti. Indian athletes
have also demonstrated worldclass levels in combat sports as evidenced by the country’s 2008 Olympic medalists in wrestling and boxing. I’ve been saying for a few years that India would be next and it was just a matter of finding the right partner in the market.
MSM has been a pioneer in India, broadcasting new sports franchises like the IPL. We’ve got big plans for India and MSM couldn’t be a better partner.”
On the other hand, Man Jit Singh, CEO of Multi Screen Media Private Ltd, said that he is delighted to bring the best brand of mixed martial arts in India through its new channel. He added that since the sports involves a lot of body conditioning, practice,
skills and strategies, it will be great for the young Indian generation to take inspiration from it. He further said that he hopes the airing of UFC will inspire young Indians to participate in it as well since it is the fastest growing sports in the world.
In the recent years, the demand for UFC around the globe has enormously grown. Countries like India and Malaysia have been seeing a gush of interest from youngsters to televise more and more fighting events such as UFC, WWE and boxing events. This is not
the first time the Indians will get live telecast of UFC events. In the past, other similar sports such as boxing and WWE have held their events in the country as well. Recently, WWE superstars visited the country to hold one of the Raw SuperShows there.
