UFC suspends Ben Henderson, Quinton Jackson for 180 days as Frankie Edgar gets 45 days - UFC news
The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) recently announced names of UFC 144 participants who are suspended for medical reasons.
In America, men involved in any kind of unarmed bouts are regulated by state commissions that are responsible to defend the rights, interests, and especially the well being of fighters. Since the UFC does not have any kind of regulatory body, it tries its
level best to follow the guidelines and strives to benefit its brawlers.
According to the recent announcement, UFC announced the medical suspensions for the brawlers who participated in its pay-per-view UFC 144. The special edition, televised on February 25, 2012, was headlined by the championship bout between Ben Henderson and
Frankie Edgar.
As per the announcement, Henderson and Edgar will remain outside the octagon for 180 and 45 days respectively. Ben who almost broke Edgar’s nose and made his left eye bulge out by a brutally powerful right foot kick, is not allowed to return unless and until
cleared by the physicians.
Edgar, on the other hand, is strictly bound to refrain from any kind of harsh physical contact for at least 30 days. Ben will undergo the therapy for the potential right hand and foot injuries. Similarly Quinton Jackson, who co-headlined the pay-per-view
by brawling against Ryan Bader, has also been refrained from taking part in any kind of action.
Quinton and Eiji Mitsuoka both are subjugated to enter the octagon for 180 days unless and until cleared by the physician. Zhang Tiequan who collected a knockout defeat from Issei Tamura, will remain outside the ring for 45 days with the stipulation of no
contact for 30 days.
Moreover, Joe Lauzon, Yushin Okami, and Cheick Kongo are also suspended for a time period of 45 days with the same stipulation of no contact for at least 30 days. Joe was brutally knocked out by Anthony Pettis in just the first round and Okami collected
a defeat in the third round from Tim Boetsch.
Kongo was also knocked out cold in his bout against Mark Hunt. Tim, who successfully nailed Okami, is the only brawler who has been suspended for a total period of 30 days with 21-day condition of no contact. In totality nine brawlers have been suspended
by UFC’s management.
‘UFC 144: Edgar vs Henderson’ took place at Saitama Super Arena situated in Saitama City of Japan. This was the first show that UFC held in Japan after a long gap of 12 years.
