UFC to hold debut event in Sweden in 2012 – UFC News
With a fan following in USA, Europe and the Far East, the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will add another country in its list of venues. The UFC management announced the news that it will be holding its first ever event in
Sweden next year. The name of the event has not been confirmed as yet, but according to reports, the UFC would be going to Stockholm when Sweden becomes the newest destination for the world’s largest mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion organization.
According to inside reports, March 28, 2012 is the tentative date, which is decided to hold the event. What the officials also revealed was the possible event, which would be held under the banner of the UFC in Sweden. The UFC
event would be the Fight Night event, which would be held either at the Ericsson Globe or the Swedish Arena. It has also been revealed that the event would be telecasted on FX on Fuel TV.
A few days ago, the Swedish MMA Federation was given permission by the Martial Arts Delegation to hold international bouts. This is when UFC was given the opportunity to head into Sweden to hold an event. The Swedish fans were
delighted upon hearing the news as nearby countries of Norway and Finland were also enthralled, for the would be able to watch UFC fighters tear each other apart in the fighting cage. In February during the UFC 126 event, the CEO of UFC, Dana White said, “It’s
true, we’re coming to Sweden”
It is interesting to note that the Swedish MMA Federation (SMMAF), the MMA promotion company in Sweden has a restriction on the time limit of MMA fights. They do not allow fights to be more than fifteen minutes in duration. This
is the reason why UFC bouts will not be the normal five round bouts but would be three round ones or less.
The UFC would be holding the Fight Night event in Sweden where the title bouts and non-title bouts are yet to be decided by the UFC management. After conquering Japan, Australia and Brazil, the UFC would be flying to Sweden with
its collection of ruthless MMA fighters. It is anticipated that the UFC octagon would stir up the UFC and MMA fans in Sweden.
