In terms of hand held UHF radio's, what does the scrambler and ANI code functionality do?

  1. Will give you a brief description, The Scrambler function is for scrambling voice audio, there are various types a few are: Inversion voice band, Rolling code frequency hopping, DES (Data Encryption Standard) Algorithm with DES as highest level scrambling out of the group.

                                ANI (Automatic Numeric Identification) which is a Motorola MDC-1000 Protocol data burst, you hear it on open squelch as an annoying packet audio burst. It's used as a radio identification number and status or message number often as an officer in distress with the push of the emergency button.
