UIS coach Nichole Inkel to work as LPGA instructor
Springfield coach Nichole Inkel, who spent a long time training players at the University of Illinois Springfield (UIS), will now work as an LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) instructor at Windy Hill Sports Complex in Midlothian.
Speaking to the media about the new development in her career, Inkel said that she had been seeking a change in her coaching, and working for LPGA is the most glaring aspect.
Inkel has made up her mind about giving her resignation at the University of Illinois, which is expected to be accepted on June 1.
Inkel said that every player or an instructor seeks success in their career, but sometimes things become unfavourable.
She said that she did not want to quit University of Illinois in the first place, despite her desire to work as an LPGA teaching professional.
Explaining what caused her to switch to Suburban Richmond Va. — her new destination — Inkel said that she was doing fine at the University and enjoying her coaching, but she did not agree with the management to make changes to the athletic department.
She said that she had no role in the decision making process at the sports department, which is why, she decided to part ways.
However, the veteran coach was keen to point out that she does not regret what she did, as the LPGA Tour is a far bigger platform for her to make progress.
“The changes within the athletic department were just not a good fit with me, so this was the perfect opportunity at the right time,” she said.
Inkel said that although she was forced to leave the University coaching, she still believes that she had a great opportunity to learn teaching skills.
She added, “I’ve had a great four years here with my players. The majority of my time spent here has been amazing. I’ve had success with the programme”.
Inkel has coached a large number of players and boasts a solid profile. One of her students, Abby Vorreyer, is quite appreciative of her teaching skills.
Vorreyer said in one of her interviews back in 2010, “Her biggest thing is, even when everything’s going wrong, just be positive in the moment and deal with the next shot. That’s the biggest thing she tries to teach us”.
