Anyone familiar with this system, please help.

I have lived in the UK for 13 years; 5 as a child when my parents were working here as a nurse and accountant and then I have lived here for 8 years as an adult, student, work permit holder and working holiday visa holder.

I have a 2 year old daughter (not british) and Childcare costs are very high. I am a tax payer and I understand tax credits are available to help people who are working to cover their childcare costs. I am not technically a british resident so am I eligible for these credits?

  1. wont hurt to fill in the forms, if you can get them you will if not you wont!

  2. Depends

It will depend on what Nationality you and your partner are. If either of you is a national of an EEA state you should claim Tax Credits and child Benefit

  3. No you have to actually be resident here to claim our benefits. Why not claim from the country where you ACTUALLY live?

Questions like this REALLY REALLY annoy me!!!!!!

  4. No you have to permanently live in Britain as a british citizen to claim tax credits!

  5. from what u say it  sounds like ur actually resident in the uk, but not a british citizen, if u have been resident here for as long as u say and are working and paying tax then it may be worth u applying for tax credits, there is a n online calculator on the inland revenue website u can work out if ur entitled to them. but send the form anyway. u will only be eligible for childcare costs if u are entitled to receive working tax credit
