Im always a bit sus when it comes to sales so im trying to keep a note of what i might like to buy & the prices just now! I dont have a lot of faith in all the boxing day deals! So to all you bargain hunters out there, when is the best time to go looking for that deal?

I should say this will really be the first year im looking to buy in the sales. It doesnt usually bother me as i hate shopping and usually dont have anything to spare after buying pressies.

  1. First of all you need to write a list what you are after

secondly have a good breakfast and wear flat shoes and go boxing day 9am

I am gutted this year as i have to go to my husbands parents boxing day and i so know i am going to miss something fab

i am sulking about having to go the following day

Have fun in the sales and take no prisoners

    january sales are war

  2. next is open 27th 5am if ur that keen

  3. I love a bargain and always go to the sales. It makes you think though if they can sell stuff so cheap after Christmas and still make a profit how much they are ripping us off at full price! Try to go early and wrap up warm, wear comfy shoes and have a good breakfast before you go. Try not to panic! It will be hectic. Stop at lunchtime for a wee bite to eat and drink and a well earned break. If it doesn't put you off then you could go back the next day for more stuff. Best of luck!

  4. Some sales are already up - you can check what's already started and dates for Boxing Day sales here - http://thriftspend.wordpress.com/2007/12...

Also, a lot of stores have online sales (John Lewis), private sales (John Lewis again), and VIP sales(Next) that start early.

  5. I would say the 1st day & midway through the sales & on the last few days. The 1st day to get the stuff that may go early cos theres not many of them in the sale. Maybe its a v v reduced customer return. Midway to get the 2nd reduction  on the sales prices. & at the end 2 get the final really low reduction. Then you can choose when the price is right for you. Some stores bring out more stuff as the sales go on, or bring stuff thats slow selling in other branches 2 the branch which is selling like hotcakes. You find that some clothing stores have more smaller sizes & others have more larger sizes, depending on the catchment area, in the sales. So if your desperate you'll need to travel around or call other branches.

I went to the Boxing day sale at Selfridges & it was good in quite a few depts. Loads of high st retailers, in there, Prada, top shop, miss selfridge, oasis, gucci. It was ram packed esp. at the Gucci store. Prada shoes were highly discounted i.e £265 to £89 so well over 50% off for 2007 shoes & boots. I've never been able to afford them before & I needed some really nice evening shoes, although I'd only gone in for some agent provacateur lingerie (I can only afford these things in the sale. I bought a beautiful lingerie set at 50% off. There were also loads of bargains in the mens departments.

A few doors up Jane Norman had a 50% off boxing day sale. This was good value as I recently thought JN was overpriced compared to Zara in terms of quality of material & deterioration of shape after cleaning. But suede jackets reduced from £60 to £30 looked good value.

Ironically, I would never have paid full price for any of these items. My logic is that high -fashion, low end items , that aren't classically well cut, only last a season, so theres no point spending loads of money on those items. Anyway, that's just my humble opinion

  6. It depend on what you want. If there is only one item left in stock then there is no point in waiting.

Then and again if the store is full to the rafters with an item there is no rush.

  7. I always reckon to try and get in as soon as possible after Xmas as all the best stuff goes early !
