Ive Googled it, but iv only found people in USA talking about who's connected to their routers n that, i dont even know what a router is.

I have a T-mobile Broadband USB stick and was wondering if other people can connect to my network, and are there any programs that will show me who's connected (their IPs) & can I can block them if they are??

Thanks x

  1. What you will need is a packet sniffer - this tracks all network traffic on your system so you can analyse whether there are any intruders.  Have a search around, there are plenty of free (try searching for "open source packet sniffer") ones out there.  Sorry, I can't remember the names of any specific ones, but there are plenty out there.  The wikipedia gives a few you could look into http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Packet_snif... or you could try NST (Network Security Toolkit), it's a linux based, cd-booting toolkit.

  2. your T-mobile USB stick connects directly to the Internet. There is no LAN environment. If you are also on a wireless LAN (you would have a separate wireless card or wireless USB stick), other users in your LAN environment will be able to use your Internet Connection when you explicitly enable it.

since you are asking this question, I assume you do not know how to enable Internet Sharing. You should be safe!

  3. I think your mobile broadband stick pulls internet down from their network to your computer.

A router is a box with antennas on it that you connect to a modem to share the internet connection wirelessly at a location, say, your house.

So you don't have to worry about anybody connecting to you :-).

  4. If you talking about the USB mobile broadband then the is no way unless you make sharing and Ad-hoc. But there is software called if you need to know routers and their wireless card association its called netsumbler and also there another also called kismet.

But I am advicing you to cancel the mobile broadband cos is so expensive and try to get free hotspots everywhere you go, but if you are corporate that pays then you are fine.

    Good luck
