UK - Does a business get maternity pay back off the government?

Just wondering if the business foots the bill or the government. Or is it different in different sized business etc..?

  1. Yes Statutory Maternity Pay is paid by the government. It is administered by employers but is returned to them. The employer adjusts the amount of tax and national insurance it returns to HMRC to reimburse the SMP it has paid out
