UK: Does anyone know their way around Bristol?

Hi! I'm moving to Bristol soon and was just wondering what the neighbourhood is like.

I've rented a flat on Gloucester Road, right up the top (opposite end to the city centre). It's very close to a pub called the John Cabot.

What is this area like, I don't mind if it's a bit shabby but I don't want to live in a warzone!

Thanks.

  1. don't move to bristol it's a big place and it would be hard to find your way around move to gloucester hereford  or shropshire they might be nicer places i used to know my way around swindon i recommed you should move to swindon because there is lots of jobs i know my way around milford haven which is a nice place but there is not much jobs

  2. Gloucester Road is best AVOIDED at all costs.  It is the main route into the city from the north, so regardless of time of day it is nose to tail with traffic.

Bristol Rovers Football Club (it is supposed to be redeveloped in 2 years time) and Gloucestershire County Cricket Club have there stadium's/grounds just off Gloucester Road and when they are playing home matches/games you literally can not move for the best part of 2 hours afterwards.

  3. Forget Gloucester Road, if Daisydor's answer about moving to Bath is not an option, try moving to the East of Bristol like Hanham or Kingswood or closer to the city St George.

As a native of Bath I can assure you it is expensive, and not particularly friendly. (Thats why I moved away!!)

    Good luck.

  4. The UK is England, Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland altogether,

    Bristol is in England,

Are you one of those people who only calls England, the UK?

  5. I don't know this particular area, but my advice would be don't move to Bristol.  If possible go to one of the lovely surrounding towns or villages.  The public transport system is good and there is easy access into the city centre.

I have a couple of friends that live there and they hate it.  Bath isn't that far and it is beautiful.
