UK Government announces promotional campaign for London Olympics 2012
The government of the United Kingdom has recently stated that it will not be sidelining the key factors that got them the London 2012 Olympic Games as it has just announced a promotional campaign that would make use of the international sporting event coming
to the capital of England.
The British government plans to take up the London Olympics opportunity as a means to advertise other aspects of the country so that England may be able to churn out long term gains from the event.
Particularly, the country aims to promote its business, tourism as well as educational side to the world through the promotional campaign designed for the Olympic Games.
The culture secretary of the UK, Jeremy Hunt, has stated that the government has designed the marketing campaign which is worth £39 million. This amount of money had added significantly to the cost of hosting the Olympic Games. The budget of the Games was
estimated to be much lower than the figure that the LOCOG is now looking at. The total budget of the Olympic Games has now increased to £81 million.
Hunt expressed himself on the matter in the following manner, “This is the government completely ignoring all the siren voices that say in times of austerity we should be cutting back on promotion. We're not staying in the middle ground, we're doing the
opposite of what those siren voices are saying. This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to promote the UK. Sport has a reach nothing else can match. We know around half the world's population will watch the Olympics live at some stage. That's something
nothing else can compete with.”
The Olympic Games are heading towards the city of London for the third time in the history of the capital of England. After the Games commence on the July 27, 2012 and reach their close on August 12, London will become the first ever city in the world to
have the honour of staging the Olympic Games for a total of three times. The city of London was able to secure its third bid for the Olympics in the year 2005.
