UK: How do newspaper companies pay newsagents for selling their newspapers?

  1. hi, i used to work for a local newspaper company, the shopkeeper had a return allowance depending on their order, then on a 30p paper they made 11p, on a magazine that was £1.60 they made 19p, the shopkeeper keeps the money for sold items and gets billed the following week once return allowance has been handed in, hope this helps...


  2. i dont realy know but i think the newsagents buy the paper off the newspaper people for a low price then sell it for a higher price, so bought are maken money. well that is what i think. it may not be right.

  3. newsagents by the newspaper from the newspaper companies for less then the selling price not the other way around that way both companies make a profit

  4. Like lil miss says, except we are only talking a few pence. Newspapers are taken on a "sale or return" basis.

    The newsagents stock them not really to make money, but in the presumption that the customer who pops in for his paper will buy other stuff.
