Question:

UK: I would like a career in science- what are my options?

I am 23 with a University degree unrelated to scientific study. Recently I have become more and more interested in science, and have learned that 'Laboratory Technicians' are the lowest rung of the research ladder- is this right?

If so, how can I become one (or whatever the lowest 'rank' is), with my science qualifications amounting to GCSEs? Ideally I'd love to work somewhere like Harwell or Porton Down etc., are there any other big research establishments in the UK?

Any help welcome!
