Question:

UK: I would like a reliable and very cheap 50cc Scooter, brand new- what would you recommend?

I would use it to commute around Bristol. Ideally I'd love one of the brand new Vespas that are built to look exactly like the models from the 1960s but I understand these are only made in 125cc and up.

I would prefer a 50cc scooter that is European.

PS, is there a way I can ride a 125cc without taking a motorcycle test? I'd like to, but I just don't have the money. I've heard you can take a 125cc CBT, is this right? If so, please tell me more about it, such as rough costs.

Would it be the same as the CBT I took six years ago to ride my 50cc moped I had then?

Cheers!

  1. you are asking the million dollar ? reliable brand new and cheap come on

  2. About the cheapest reliable scooter you will find is made by KYMCO.  Check out the Sting 50, Sento 50, and the People 50... they have a similar look that I think you may like.

  3. If you want a European made scooter, it won't be cheap.

If you want a cheap scooter, it won't be reliable, or made in Europe.

As you are over 17 years of age, you can take a CBT that will allow you to ride motorcycles and scooters up to 125cc.  It is only valid for 2 years, though.

  4. Reliable and Very Cheap is an Oxymoron. Look it up.

  5. The CBT is the same as it ever was, and it allows you to ride a 125cc on L plates, as it always did.

I'd still buy Japanese - the European stuff is just not as well made.

  6. Reliable and cheap don't go together, if you can get an Aprilia SR50 or Peugeot Speedfight 50.  Or if your really skint get one of those Peugeot Ludix 50 scooters, they look kind of stupid but you can get them for £1,000 new the last time i looked.

  7. The 50cc jobbies are the ones driven by midwives! Worrying!

  8. I do not know...
