Question:

UK Import Customs Tax Limit Increase?

I heard around April of 2008 the the current limit for having customs charges when buying goods from abroad will be increased greatly in December 2008.

From £18 - to around £118

Is this true or was it misinterpreted for people bringing in goods them self from abroad, i.e. you go on holiday and bring back loads of stuff.

The Duty tax i'm talking about is like when you order goods on-line for example and they get shipped to you from abroad, and if the item/s are £18 and above, you incur customs duty tax.

  1. this is definately a misinterpratation. the limits have never changed, not in the past 5 years that i know of anyway.

the postal import limit as you stated is £18, the travelling limit for goods intended for PERSONAL use is £145 (it's this limit that there were thoughts of changing) and any imports from within the European Community do not get charged import taxes unless they are considered excise goods
