UK Isn't it amazing that wearing a silver bangle could be more important than education?

An Asian girl was banned from school because of a small silver wrist bangle which has some religious significance to her.

You would think that being educated to Degree level and being responsible for the education of the next generation that teachers would not be so petty minded about completely unimportant issues.

If she wears a small silver bangle or not WHO CARES. the same school allows wrist watches which are actually bigger than the bangle and often a good deal uglier.

Why don't the British stop worrying about if some guy lights a cigarette up in his own van or if a girl wears a small silver bangle to school, mind their own business and find some real work to do.

  1. Funny how the education system works. Even in NZ that it works like that. They are so petty and controlling.. unbelievable

  2. Wow that's insane.  My understanding of the Separation of Church and State is that while teachers are not allowed to share their views on the topic, students can express a freedom of religion.  If I send my kid to school with a cross on, or a silver bangle, or whatever, there is absolutely no reason why he/she should be sent home for it.  It's absolutely ridiculous.  She's not forcing her religion on anyone else, nor is she in front of the class teaching it.  It is just a simple silver bangle that is representative of her upbringing.  What is the world coming to???  Aren't there better things to worry about than some kid's wrist and what's on it?

I've never heard of that in a public school.  Maybe a specific religion-oriented school, but never a general public school, or any other non-religious school of any sort. But I live in the US so maybe it's different over here.

Gosh, so what if she had come in wearing a burqa?  Would they tell her to take it off?  Does everyone have to wear the same color underwear, too?  Geez...
