UK LAW - Is it legal to own a decommissioned WW2 gun in the UK?

Please settle an argument for me! I'd like to know if it is legal for an individual to own a large, former World War gun which has been professionally prevented from working (or "decommissioned"), and is purely held for display purposes. This is a question regarding English Law - can anyone tell me the answer please?
