Question:

UK Motability Car Scheme - Is this allowed ?

My mum has the full DLA allowance so is entitled to use the Motability car scheme in the UK. I know that at the end of the three year contract period, my mum will have the option to purchase the car from the dealer.

My question is this...........

Would my mum be allowed to buy the car and then sell it to me ? (which is effectively a round about way of me buying the car from the dealer)

And if she does do that, could she then take out a new 3 year contract on a new vehicle and use it for her own use ?

Many thanks.

  1. As you obviously want everything above board and legal, you should ask the people who run the Motability scheme. My feeling is that she may be required to keep the car for a year after buying it but that's only a guess.

  2. The short answer to this is yes on both counts.

    Ja.

  3. Hopefully not.

Why should we, the taxpayers, subsidise you getting a cheap car, and your mum yet another new one?

Most people are content with a car over 3 years old and live with it.

Yet another symptom of "want the world handed to you on a plate" that most of society seems to have become.

  4. HELLO

YES SHE WOULD OWN THE CAR

BUT DON'T FORGET MOTABILITY ONLY BUYS CARS LESS THAN 3 YEARS OLD SO WHERE IS THE REST OF THE MONEY GOING TO COME FROM?

  5. I think that's ok because if she buys the car she will still get her DLA money to pay for running it.

  6. it depends how your mother intends to pay for the vehicle, if she intends to use her mobility allowance to pay for the vehicle, then she will not be able to finance another vehicle using her allowance money, if she intends to pay cash for the vehicle then sell it to you, then that would not be any concern of the d  l a, and she could use her allowance to indeed purchase another car on the scheme. you could argue that if you brought the old vehicle then it would be used to do errands for your mum, ie shopping and picking up prescriptions etc etc. personally l would check with d l a at Blackpool so not to jeopardise you mums claim, you know the government are trying to claw back as much money as they can at the present
