UK: Motorcycles are now classed on their tax discs as Bicycles. Can motorcycles legally use cycle lanes ?

  1. The short answer is no, but in some local authority areas mopeds are permitted to use them and in most areas electricaly assisted pedal cycles are permitted to use them.

    If you need to know the answer for your area you will have to refer to the bylaws that set up the cycle lanes.


  2. Nope, except in particular local circumstances.  Within the taxation rules it's technically a "motor bicycle" (as opposed to a "pedal bicycle").

  3. NO, read the part of the Highway Code that referes to pedal cycles and cycle lanes.

  4. as far as i am aware Motorcycles can not use bicycle lanes, though cars seem to with no impunity.
