UK My Sister's Boyfriend is Sponging Off Her While he Waits for his Appeal - Question about Income Support

My sister's boyfriend is a workshy sponger. The DSS have taken him off incapacity/sickness benefit and he has appealed. He tells her that he only gets £40.00 per week while he waits for the appeal/tribunal to be heard, so he's been getting money off her to keep him going. This has been going on for weeks and weeks, and now she's really hard up too.

Can this be correct? Do you get your benefit cut to £40 a week if you take a decision to appeal? Apparantly he'll get the difference back if he wins.

  1. When this happened to me my benefit was reduced to £38.00 a week so he is probably telling the truth and yes any benefits outstanding are repaid in full - if he wins his appeal/tribunal.

  2. jobseekers allowance £45 pw if under 25 years old, £58 pw if over 25,

  3. if they have taken him off of incapacity benefit he will not be receiving anything. if he is appealing they will pay him from the date of the appeal outcome if he wins they will not back date his money because according to them he is not entitled to it so theyre not holding it for him if you see what i mean. he could be claiming jobseekers allowance to be getting £40 a week or income support. he is stringing her a line to get money off of her, the jobcentre obviously think he is fit for work so the best thing your sis can do is tell the lazy sod to get a job, or sod off. check out directgov.uk for benefit info yourself and you will be able to track his every word lol

  4. He is lying.

    She must kick him out.

He isn't any kind of a man anyway.

  5. He will get the lowest amount the government determines is enough to live on, I believe it is somewhere around £70 pw. Incapacity benefit is at a higher rate though, so he could quite well be getting more than that even. Keep looking out for your sis....she might not appreciate it now, but she will in the long run....why cant they see what kind of men they are hooking up with, (I have a sister who has just had a baby with an self employed non-worker), the only good thing about him is that he is not signing on, he is waiting for people to come and offer him a job....like that is gonna happen). Im sure hes waiting for her to go back to work so he can stay at home and play with his son.....(not if I have anything to do with it though).

  6. More fool your sister but what concern is it of yours? If your sister is happy to help him fine if not dump him but its not your decision to make nor should you interfere

  7. Yes this is correct.  If you are taken off IB and you appeal then your benefit is cut to £40 a week (the lowest amount deemed necessary to live on) until your appeal is heard.  If you win, anything outstanding will be repaid to you.
