UK NHS: If you had braces as a kid but you grew older and still needed them as an adult would you have to pay?

e.g. if you were 15, and had braces, but continued wearing them until you turned 18/19, would you suddenly have to pay for the treatment or would it still be free on the NHS?

  1. No, it's still free on the NHS


  2. If you qualify for free treatment it would be free. If you don't then you have to pay either a contribution on the NHS or completely if private

  3. Yes my Mum bought braces for me when i was young now ive got to buy my own or my shreddies will fall down in the street.  

  4. You would have to pay at 18 as braces are for cosmetic purposes.

  5. if you qualify for free treatment at the start of treatment - then the whole course (no matter how long it takes) will be covered.

      The dentist will apply for approval from the dental board for your treatment - listing what he needs to do for you .  If they approve this treatment then the dentist will be paid for it regardless of your age once it is completed.
