Every time they turn a corner, every time they walk through a door way, there is smiling Gordon greeting them.

Some part of his crass self must know that they won the Medals; not because of him but despite him.

Well, they are called Team GB, so maybe he thinks that he owns them.

"Smiling" isn't the word, as he has one of the most forced grimaces I've ever seen.

Politicians like to associate themselves with success, particularly of the sporting kind, as it's uncontroversial and widens their appeal.

I think that Team GB prospered due to Lottery Funding, rather than an Politician's efforts.

The government is jumping on the success bandwagon and is gatecrashing the party. The government did not fund this team the lottery did. But the lottery is not getting anything out of it.
