UK Open: Wes Newton makes it back to darts
In an interesting encounter of darts, Wes Newton was able to make a speedy surge in the UK Open by defeating Belgian player Kim Huybrechts 6-3 at Crawley.
He was able to secure his position in the event after pursing 6,000 pounds at the K2 Centre to reserve his place at Bolton.
Newton began his game in a rather shaky style in the event, with Kim grabbing the first four legs of the game.
It was precisely at this point when Newton began to realise the gravity of the situation and bounced back in the game with a bang.
With the help of a14-darter and repeated shots at the bullseye, he was able to secure a stable position in the match.
Looking at the ingenious and aggressive way Newton was performing, Kim began to lose his nerve on the game.
He missed the opportunity of scoring a double in both legs and this further provided Newton the loopholes to capitalise upon.
However, Kim made a comeback with the help of a 130 checkout. This could only rescue him from a major margin defeat, as Newton was already able to score a 180 in the eighth of the game.
The final nail in Kim’s coffin came in the form of his attempt of missing a double 14 that could have easily helped him in getting back in momentum.
Thus, the game ended with Newton cruising conveniently into the next round of the event.
The Warrior of darts was able to defeat Coventry's Kevin Dowling in one of his most interesting darts competition on PDC.
The victory came at the crucial moment to reserve his place among the top four who will be competing against each other in the semi-finals.
It is anticipated that Newton will most probably be meeting Australian ace darts player, Simon Whitlock.
Other players who have been able to make it into the semis are, Ireland's William O'Connor, Warwickshire's Prakash Jiwa, Ronnie Baxter and Scott Rand.
Experts believe that the kind of performance Newton has been showing in this event will definitely help him in securing a stable position in the mainstream of darts for times to come.
