I want to get a ps3. However, i dont know whether to get a 60gb from ebay, or a 80gb when it is released in a few days. I do not care about backwards compatibility.

  1. If you don't care about PS2 games, card reader and two extra USB slots - get an upcoming 80GB. BTW, you'll get a full warranty this way. As for extra USBs - you can buy cheap USB hub. Same goes to card reader.

  2. well sony are bringing out playtv witch u can watch digital tv and record it and play it back so having more gigabites is better if your going to buy that.

for the same price wait a few days for the 80gb

  3. If you don't care about backwards compatibility then I'd say go for a nice new 80GB with a warranty just in case the worst should happen.

To the best of my knowledge the only other difference is that the 60GB has 2 USB slots as opposed to the 60GB's 4 or something like that. 80GB might not be able to take SD or Memory Stick I think.

Edit - Either way, if the hard disk size sounds inadequate you can open the PS3 & upgrade the hard disk with a 3'5" Laptop hard drive. They come in all sizes, from 100GB-320GB to possibly 500GB now. Toshiba are apparently making a 1TB which should be nice!

  4. Still get the 60gb. The 80gb is just the 40gb one with more space. the 60gb one also has a slot for SD/Memory Stick cards and various other things. I learned about the lack of extra slots the hard way.
