A teacher at my daughters primary school has said she would give private lessons (mainly math) to my 10yr old - what sort of price (we have yet to discuss details) could I expect her to charge me?

If you are a teacher please could you tell me what age or year you teach.

  1. A couple of years ago the going rate was £15 an hour but I suspect it is much higher now. Bearing in mind a teacher's normal rate of pay is about £100 a day depending on their pay grade.

  2. I charged £20 three years ago.  I hear the going rate is now £25.

  3. hi

i am a teacher and i used to tutor a girl (year 9) for maths, i charged £20 an hour. I would charge about £15 for primary. that is in wales though, in cities you may need to pay more

  4. I think around £20.00? That is what I paid for my math tutor recently.

  5. I do private tuition (I am a retired teacher) and the going rate is £20.00 per hour (probably more in London) and the student's parents are expected to pay for any workbooks that you feel are necessary for you to work satisfactorily with her.

You should not expect them to pay your  travelling expenses.

As to what year I teach, throughout my 40+ years in teaching i have taught at every level from Reception to Year 6 - and still work as a supply teacher when asked to.
