UK Prime Minister David Cameron visits Olympic Park – London Olympics 2012
United Kingdom Prime Minister David Cameron visited the Olympic Park in order to mark the 200-day countdown till the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The visit was accompanied by tight security as the Prime Minister also held a cabinet meeting at the Stratford venue present in East London, one of the main Olympic sites.
Cameron said, “As we kick off 2012, the year of the Olympic and Paralympic Games and the Diamond Jubilee, this is the perfect time for the Cabinet to come together and ensure we are doing absolutely everything we can to make the most of this unique opportunity
to showcase all the great things the UK has to offer to the rest of the world. As Ministers visit Olympic venues, businesses, schools and organizations associated with 2012 right across the UK, I want the message to go out loud and clear, from tourism to business,
sport to investment, we are determined to maximize the benefits of 2012 for the whole country.”
The London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games as well as the government of England have decided upon eight Olympic venues that are going to serve as the permanent sites. These Olympic sites will have to be looked after in order to keep them in good
condition.
For this purpose, Cameron shed light upon the new contracts that have been jotted down for the maintenance as well as management of the Olympic venues. These contracts will serve the purpose of generating more than 250 jobs as well as opportunities.
The Olympic Games are scheduled to start from the July 27 and will continue until August 12. After London hosts the Olympic Games this time around, it will become the first city in the world to have staged the international sporting event for a total of
three times.
The city of London was able to win the bid to host the Games in the year 2005, when other prospective countries included New York City and Madrid as well.
