UK Prime Minister David Cameroon urges football to use video technology like Tennis and Cricket

UK Prime Minister David Cameroon urges FIFA to use video technology in Football like Tennis and Cricket.

UK Prime Minister David Cameroon has insisted that video technology should be included in all sports, following England’s exit from the World Cup.

England never looked like winning the game. They eventually lost 4-1 to a much stronger Germany, who humbled them with their superior game play and perfect finishing. The English camp left the field dejected and disappointed; all the players and coaching staff blamed the disallowed goal for Lampard to be the turning point. England were 2-0 down when a goal from defender Upson showed a sign of recovery. A minute later, Lampard struck the ball into goal, which bounced off the top of frame and about a yard into the goal line. The line men could not see it, and prevented England to be level before half time. After being disallowed, England never looked like coming back, and went further down when Germans made it 4-1. Rio Ferdinand, the injured former English captain, also blamed the disallowed goal to being the key factor that led to England’s eventual downfall.

It is not for the first time that the video technology issue has been raised at FIFA. France qualified for the World Cup, following a hand ball from Henry which he passed to Gallas for the winning goal against Ireland. FIFA allowed the goal, and France qualified. It was a huge disappointment for the Irish team, and they were furious at being helpless. In almost every game, there are dives and tricks which players use to frame others. Many of the great players have used these tactics to make a name for themselves; Maradona’s “Hand of God” was perhaps the most famous one, when he scored against England, using his hand. That strike was allowed by the keeper and eventually caused England to crash out of the World Cup. Cristiano Ronaldo has also been given penalties and free kicks for his dives, which referees have failed to discover. Many goals were disallowed of being offside when they were not and many have been allowed even if they were offside. The goal against Manchester United from Drogba was a clear offside, and it may have been the defining moment of the season, which Chelsea later won.

Now, the matter has become more serious as the Prime Minister of United Kingdom has insisted to use video technology to decide controversial decisions.  He added that he follows Cricket and Tennis keenly and is happy with the fact that both the sports use video technology. Cricket has been using the 3rd umpire system for a while now to decide close run outs and stumps, and has also introduced technology to determine leg before wickets and ambiguous catches. Tennis has also now been equipped with state-of-the-art technology that determines outs and other controversial cases. He added that football should now seriously consider this.

He declined to comment on whether a change is needed for the English manager. He simply replied that it was not in his job description to decide who should be the coach. He was however disappointed with the performance. He also stated that they were not robbed from a victory but were comprehensively beaten by the Germans. He said that the nation would be disappointed by the player’s performance, and questions will surely be asked from the players by the respective authority. He declined to get involved into the matter of English players donating their match fee to charity. It was publically pledged prior to the World Cup, with the slogan of “Together We’re Stronger”. "I have enough cutting the Cabinet's pay without getting stuck into the England football team”, the Prime Minister said.

He said that it would be unwise for the UK Prime minister to get into the matter of English Football team’s remuneration. He said that responsibility should be exercised at correct level. The FA rules the football matters and they should take a look into it.

At the end, he commented that the suggestion would be taken into account.
