  1. I have to be honest, I'm a redhead and live in the UK, and I've never found it a problem.

The worse abuse I have ever had was being called 'ginge' as a nickname, or 'carrot top' both of which I saw as affectionate.

Then there are the 'is it true what they say about redheads' comments along with 'do the carpets match the curtains', but I've always taken those in pretty good humour.

Every negative remark I have ever had has been outnumbered 1000 to 1 by all the people who tell me that they love my hair colour or they wish they had my hair colour.

I work in a library and I even got a guy who came up to me with an art book to show me a pre-raphaelite picture he thought I looked like. I can honestly say the worst comment I have ever had was a friend who told me as a teenager that if she had hair my colour she'd dye it. Oh, and the girl who couldn't get over the fact that redheads have red pubic hair, and told all the boys who made up a song about me, but that's about it.

  2. Me mum was ginger. She was a brilliant person. I saw this question recently oddly enough.

Make it a world wide cause it would do more good.

  4. OMG I am a red head from the U.K. and have felt so strongly about this that for my english coursework I did a talk on gingerism and showed clips from Kathrine Tate etc which encouraged the abuse. I just find the name ginger offensive because its often the case that most red heads aren't ginger. I have been yelled at in the street G-INGER and after some research for my talk, i found out that 5 years ago someone actually got killed. It is as bad as racism because we can't help the colour of our hair no more than people can help the colouor of their skin - we were born with red hair just as we're born with white or black skin. my e-mail address is xxxred_foxyxxx@hotmail.com    thank-you for giving a dam!!!!
