Question:

UK Visitor Visa at British Consulate General Chicago?

Hi. I am applying a visitor visa for sightseeing in UK in late August. I completed the online application, paid the application fee and mailed all documents to British Consulate General Chicago. That was four weeks ago. Up to now I have received no response -- no confirmation email, no phone call, nothing. The FedEx tracking record shows my package has been delivered, but I don't even know if my application and documents are in good hands. Some of my most important documents, including my passport and US visa documents are in that package.

I have tried to find a way to query the status of my application, but found nothing. There is a phone number to the consulate, but I just got a recorded message on visa inquiry, telling me the same information as listed on their website.

I wonder if there is anything I can do right now -- At this point I don't even care if they issue me a visa or not -- I just want my documents back. Any advice? Thank you.

  1. See if they've taken your money. Can you track your bank accounts or ask your bank if there has been a payment taken from them?

When did you apply for this visa? Your post says late August but I find it hard to believe they've been holding onto your documents since last year. Do you mean last June?

    According to their website:

How long does the visa application process take?

We aim to process the majority of mailed applications within 5 business days regardless of which visa you are applying for. However we would advise all applicants to make their applications a minimum of 14 days before their proposed date of travel. This is particularly important during the busy holiday periods at Christmas and the summer.
