UK. What are those grey poles the same size as a street light but with a smooth "bull rush" looking top

We noticed these by the side of the roads - along the A44; outside Heathrow; going onto the M4, along the A46 .....

They have a green box or boxes under them. They are not cameras - or don't look like any and have no wires or anything else on them.

Impossible to know which category to post this one under!

the only things i can think of are mobile antenna or Traffic mate cameras.

You might find they're 3G mobile phone masts. I've posted a photo of one I pulled off the net.

Or... Aliens left them...
