This is my first year growing them.

What do i need to do now, and where should they be stored during winter? (I have them in pots) I have a greenhouse i can store them in.

I plan on repotting them so they have more room, should i do that now or wait untill next year?

  1. Commercial varieties usually fruit well for about 3 years.Chuck them out after that, but plant up the baby plantlets that form on the end of a long bald stem.Cut the stem.Strawberrys fruit better if they get some cold weather in winter, otherwises they grow lots and fruit little.Give them a general feed in March

  2. Keep them going and pin down the little plantlets you see at the end of the runners into new pots. When they've rooted, you have a new free plant for next year.

  3. i had strawberry plants inpots in a coldframe with no lid and they was okay all over winter, they now have a permanent place in the ground and at the end of the season you cut the plant to about 3inches above the crown. and cut off any unwanted runners, those you do want to keep pin down in pots to root. if you are limited for space you can get a strawberry drum with section cut out for the plants and it only takes up the same room as a drum and room for 32 plants.

  4. Strawberry's are a very hardy plant and will happily sit out the winter in a greenhouse or similar, you might want to cover it with straw to help protect it from frost but it will survive perfectly well. As for re potting it is best to wait until the next growing season when it is more robust and wont be effected by the move as much.
