My partner and I like the name Rhys for our baby boy due 25th October, however when i have put it in a question before a few people have hated it as they don't know how to pronounce it. I figured that the majority of people who were unsure on its pronunciation were probably from outside the UK so i can understand that they wouldn't know how to pronounce it as it is the welsh way of spelling it. I don't like the "Reece" way of spelling it.

So my question is aimed at the UK, do you know how to pronounce Rhys?

  6. I'm from Australia, but I've always pronounced the name Rhys as 'rees' (just like the name Reece). Apparently the original Welsh way of pronouncing this name is 'hrees'. I love that you're sticking with the more traditional, eye-catching spelling of Rhys. I much prefer it.

I think people should know how to say this name correctly because of the popularity of Jonathan Rhys Meyers, the Irish actor.

  7. My son is called Ari Rhys Joseph, he goes by Rhys and many of my friends have since named their son's Rhys as it is such a lovely name.

Very short and strong yet cute when he was a baby too.

The Welsh way of spelling it is Rhys (we're Welsh) and the English is Reece which is how it's pronounced.

The only trouble we have had with it is that it was changed to Rhys"y" when he started nursery as they adord him so much!!!

We call him "Greasy Rhysy" when he needs a shower too!!!!

We are now expecting baby number 2 and are finding boys names to live up to his brothers quite hard!!!
