I have for the first time just bought my Car duty online. I usually only buy 6 months at a time. And as far i was aware, it cost half of buying a 12 month duty. But now its more, I paid £101.75 for 6 months, yet the price to buy 12 months is £185. i simply can not afford to buy 12 months in one hit

Does anyone know why they should be charging more than half the price, for essentially half a years duty!!. Is this just another rip off by the government to thos who can not afford to spend lots of money in one hit!!.

  1. it has always cost more than half to buy 6 month road tax, online or in the post office.

  2. this government likes to take as much tax as possible especially from those that cant afford it heres a tip always get your car tax in the days preceding the budget even if you have to cash in the old one, mine doubles next may to £450 so i will surrender my current disc for a refund then tax again for 12 months, total saving £225 i make the thieving lying government work hard to get my money rather than just moan then pay up anyway

  3. It's down to the increased administration costs involved in writing out to you twice a year to renew your tax, rather than just annually.

It's also a classic 'up-sell' tactic designed to get you to save a few quid now, by paying more up front.

  4. Quite simply you are creating more paperwork for government employees, and that needs to be paid for.

How else are they going to get their massive pensions and paid holidays?

I'd suggest you get another job and pay even more tax, as the car duty is going to be flying through the roof soon.

    Rip off England.

  5. I JUST DID THE SAME THEY SAY ITS THE EXTRA ADMIN COSTS BECAUSE THEY HAVE TO LOOK AT YOUR FOLDER TWICE A YEAR
