I am a UK citizen married to a US citizen and currently living in the US. We intend to move to the UK. Will she be able to work immediately or is there a waiting period to obtain a work permit for her. If there is a wait period is there anything we could set in motion before we make the move. Thanks.

  1. I believe she will need to apply for a spouse visa at your nearest british embassy.  You will have to apply in the US before going back to the UK.  I am in the process of researching this information as well.

  2. Contact the UK Consul and he/she will advise you.

  3. Attached link will answer your question - it's a lot more difficult if you are not already married

  4. If she has a UK marriage visa she doesn't need a separate work permit, she can work straight away.

    Hope this helps.
