How old do you have to be to start driving now? when can you take the test, and when can u actually start having lessons..

im really confused cos some people are saying the law has been increased to 18, or is it 17?

  1. It's still seventeen at the moment.  You can begin lessons and take the test any time after you turn seventeen, as long as you have your provisional licence.


  2. You can obtain a provisional licence and even take your test on your 17th birthday. Once you have passed your test you are legally permitted to drive on a public road on your own.

  3. 17 you are allowed on the road to take lessons or if you pass drive legally there is talk of the age being increased in the future
