If so, what is the procedure, I know that I make an application to the supplier, in this case Scotia Gas, but do they need to dig up the road and if so, do I need permission from the LA or does the supplier do this?

On their website Scotia Gas give prices for connection if the mains pipe is within 23 metres to your home, what if it is more than this?

  1. the charge comapny is makin will cover any thing to provide gas to ur house as for permission from ur LA, u don't need to do any thing gas company will do it for u, it's bit long procedure ur application n connection can take up to 4weeks depending on the comapny schedule.

  2. Yes the gas company do all the work, but you don't have to limit youself to just the one supplier, shop around for the best deal, they're going to charge you for the privilege of buying gas from them in the future.

  3. You can choose the supplier you want - essentially they will arange for a subcontractor to do the work to pipe you up to the supply point, and to install and commission a meter. The supply company ( my company has a department called "Gas Siteworks") should sort out issues regarding trenching etc. If the job is a large one you may need to negociate a price, and provide plans (at your expense) for the company you choose to quote for the job

  4. Our gas was connected last year by Transco.  They made a metre square hole on the pavement just outside our property and another near the house.  They used a 'mole' to dig through and join the holes up.  The supplier will provide a wall mounted meter box as standard - although we had one set into the wall by our local builder as it looks tidier.  Transco connected the supply to the box and then sent another team out the following day to re-tarmac over the holes.  I then chose British Gas who came and connected the meter to the boiler.  All very straight forward.  I checked out the suppliers through www.moneysavingexpert.com.  Hope this helps :-)
