My future employers need my bank details for paying my salary; they ask for a Bank branch Code (which I have never heard of) but not a sort code, which they surely need for making a payment into my account? So does branch code mean sort code? Thanks.

  1. If its your UK employer that will be paying you then yes.  You need an IBAN number for payments from abroad and this usually takes the format of the first 4 letters from the bank name followed by a couple of numbers.

  2. yes they both are same..

sore code is used in cheaque books and bank branch codes are used to transfer Money and used by bank staff only..

  3. yes it's the same, its old fashioned now though as most banks operate centrally rather than on a branch basis.

  4. yes

  5. yes same thing. good luck in new job!

  6. YES spot on ! Sort Codes that start 10-??-?? are Bank of England, 20-??-?? are Barclays Bank, 30-??-?? are LloydsTSB, 40-??-?? are HSBC & 60-??-?? are Nat West Bank !

  7. Sort code consists of 6 digits seperated by a dash i.e

12-34-56. these digits identify the particular bank, the last two identify the individual branch.

  8. both the same. Enjoy your new job!!
