My boyfriends passport expires in October of this year, we have booked a holiday to go to Greece at the end of June for ten days.. does he have to renew? I heard that you needed 6 months on a passport to travel but as we are staying in Europe is it ok?

  1. Hold fire! If your boyfirend has a U.K passport it is absolutley fine to travel to greece on a passport with only 3 months validity left. Technically the passport only needs to have a validity for the length of stay you will be in Greece as it is part of the European community. Check the link below from the Greek Embassy.

I would recommend he replaces his passport when he returns back from holiday as this is a common problem, and he'll want to make sure he has a valid passport for his next trip and not get caught out!

Have a great time in Greece.

  2. For SOME countries you do need at least 6 months left on your passport to travel, but not all countries.

In Greece (if you are an EU citizen/national) you DO NOT need 6 months on your passport.

(N.B. Non EU nationals/citizens need at least 3 months left on their passports)

Go to www.fco.gov.uk for more info.

  3. yes i would and it only takes a couple of weeks

  4. In some countries it IS a huge problem if your passport is due to expire within 6 months. Seeing that it doesn't take long to renew your passport you'd be much better to get it renewed NOW rather than later. You can inform the Embassy of the dat you intend to travel and they will make sure they RUSH the new passport back to you in plenty of time. I have even gone down to London and had it renewed the same day. If all your paperwork is in order and you have the photographs they require it should be no problem.
