Question:

UK resident, Japanese passport question?

I was born here in the UK. My father and mother were both born in Japan and are fully Japanese. Ive always had Japanese passports, and on one of the early ones, i have a stamp stating that i have leave to remain. (Ive shown it to people before as proof of my residency).

However, my passport expires in about a month. My father wants me to get a new one, but i really dont think i need it. I'm going to university later this year, dont intend to travel and have my birth certificate stating i was born here anyway.

If i dont get a new one now will it be more trouble to get one later? Or can i just leave it and apply for one the same way?

BTW i'm 20 right now and i know theres some rules about choosing your nationality but im not exactly sure what they are. I dont mind if i can only get a british passport later (if i can). I dont even know if i have dual-nationality...

Any help is appreciated. Please and Thank you ^^
