UK resident- married in Greece- do we need to do anything with our certificates?

We have now received our wedding certificates from Greece (Santorini) I have been told that this is a legally recognised wedding certificate in the UK and unless specifically requested we do not need to get anything done to them (translated, or legal stamps).

Can anyone confirm this? The answer I got for the registrars was a little vague.

I want to start changing my name!.

(PS we did also register our marriage at the UK registrars prior to our wedding to obtain the no impediment cert).

  1. u need to have thing lagaly swiched on ur record and drivers licence, and file joint taxes

  2. You don't have to do anything else.

  3. Congratulations. I'm Scottish and have been living in Greece for 5 years. The Greeks do tend to be a bit vague on some things but as far as I know what you've been told is correct. I assume you are living in uk but just got married in Greece. If you ask at the registry office in UK they will check the everything is in order and will tell you wether or not you do have to get it transleted but I think it'll be fine as it is unless, like you said it is specially requested.

  4. Provided you met all the provisions of Greek law and the marriage is legal in Greece, it's legal in the UK and any other EU nation as well.
