  1. It's definately a possibility. But they'd have to use an alternative.

  2. Hi!

I don't live actually in UK.

Because of cost of fuel and electricity, food prices will rise and we would die of starvation.

And we will stay in the land we migrated forever since transportation may be expensive and limited but solutions may also be made but we should conserve by now.

The scene will be like in Doomsday.Extinction may be possible in almost all the creatures becuase of starvation.

  3. it has been suggested, i think/hope the safety angle will win out though. none here either, but i do remember town at chucking out time...

    l.e.d. street lights?

ben, we get 4% of our electricity from france, how much do you get from canada?

  4. Anything's possible; someone in my family work for social services and she has discovered that as a cost saving measure, the council have refused to insure any of their buildings. The logic is that long term premium payments could be spent elsewhere; their thinking does not extend to what happens when a building burns down or is burgled.

If this lack of foresight is the rule rather than the exception, then I'd get stocking up on candles pretty f*cking handy, beacuse increasing power costs will not have been even contemplated by local authorities

  5. It's already been debated at my local county council, although they've deffered making a decision until the next session.

  6. where i live, there aren't any street lights, so my first thought after reading your question was, they may as well, they're not that important. but thinking about it a bit more i guess street lights are needed these days as our streets are crawling with violent thugs, due to our shite justice system.

I think the only thing that will change is that everything will get alot more expensive untill the time comes when nobody can afford to pay for anything and the whole country goes t!ts up.

  7. It could be a definite possibility. It should have the same principles as switching lights off at home. I've known so many people to turn their lights on when it's barely dark. I know wildlife would definitely benefit alot more from the abence of endless light.

Cutting it down gradually would help humans to familiarise themselves with areas. Maybe councils could reduce the amount of lights they use.....instead of having them all on??

Maybe we'll all rely on candles like our ancestors did before electricity was even invented =)

  8. No, i think youd find many electric companies are going back to coal, gas prices on the up, oil on the up, everything but coal. so dont worry

  9. Street lights are there for peoples safety.  If you turned them off, the war on AGW might start claiming human casualities.

I think the UK needs to do something about your domestic power generation capacity.  I think you import half your power from France.  To bad if they jack up the prices or have a strike or something.  Yours might be the first plug they pull.

  10. Nope.
