UK??or Great Britain??

Is there a difference between Great Britain and the UK, do we include different countries/islands when talking about one or the other

  1. Great Britain  is just refering to the island with England, Scotland and Wales on it.

    thats why the UK's full name is

    The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.


  2. The first poster is absolutely spot on.  Great Britain isn't used much simply because everything we do covers all our isles, so UK is used instead.

  4. nope, refers to the same places (england, wales, scotland and Northern Ireland)

  5. Great Britain usually means everything except N. Ireland, and the UK covers all the United Kingdom/territories - or at least that is how I was taught. No one seems to use Great Britain much anymore except older people.
