UMES Hawks vs. Bryant University Bulldogs – Match preview
The University of Maryland Eastern Shore and Bryant University women’s volleyball teams are set to clash in the opening match of the Brown Invitational on Friday, September 16. The city of Providence, Rhode Island, will serve as the venue of the tournament
which will finish its run on September 17. In addition to the Hawks and Bulldogs, teams from hosts Brown University and Fordham University will also be on board to take part in the action. The match between UMES Hawks and Bryant Bulldogs is scheduled to start
at 1630 (local time).
UMES Hawks
This is going to be the eighth match for UMES Hawks in the running season. So far they have settled for an overall record of 3-4. The start of the season was not very good as the Hawks could only capture one match at the USF Invitational in the first week
of September. The USF Invitational was held in Tampa, Florida, where the Hawks ended up with the final score of 1-3.
In their last campaign, they were featured at the Bryant Invitational in Smithfield, Rhode Island. The Lady Hawks did well at the second tournament and gave out an improved performance. They claimed two out of three matches and clinched success against hosts
Bryant Bulldogs and the Harvard University team.
The Brown Invitational is another great opportunity for Lady Hawks to cover the deficit from their previous matches. They have their first match against Bulldogs, whom they have already defeated last week. They will be in a better position to put pressure
on the rival side and record another wonderful performance. The Head Coach of Hawks, Don Metil, is pretty confident about his team-line and preparations. He is looking forward to see freshman Saitaua Losia play after she created a buzz for the Lady Hawks last
week and settled for Athlete of the Week award.
Bryant Bulldogs
The Bryant Bulldogs’ squad has appeared in ten matches of the 2011 season. The Bulldogs have not been able to garner a lot of attention because they dropped most of their matches. They have set up an overall win/loss record of 3-7, which doesn’t speak in
their favour. The team is headed by Coach Theresa Garlacy, while Tedd Garlacy is attached with Bulldogs as assistant coach. The Bulldogs opened the 2011 season with a stellar performance against University of Missouri – Kansas City team. They battled out a
great victory at the West Point Invitational opener and defeated the Missouri State Bears in five sets. However, the Bulldogs could not keep up the same energy for the rest of the matches and finished the season-opener with a score of 1-2.
In the next run, they showed remarkable consistency and once again had a 1-2 record at the Denver Invitational. The Bulldogs could only get their hands on one victory and suffered the loss of two matches.
In the second week of September, the Bulldogs returned home and hosted the Bryant Invitational. The team failed to profit from the home advantage and ended up with just one victory in the entire campaign. It was a disappointing show as the Bulldogs were
expected to perform better on their home turf.
With another opportunity knocking at their door, the Bulldogs seriously need to overcome their flaws and perform better in the Brown Invitational.
