I'd like to see debates from both party supporters. Present your arguments please, why or why not?

Best argument = best answer. Simple as that.

Any non-relevant answer will not be included in my decision for Best Answer.

  1. I think J.McCain is undermining women. He waited to see if Obama was gonna pick Hillary as VP before he chose S.Palin at the last minute.

And he only met her once. And he thinks that just cuz she's a mother, and a hockey mother at that, that the women of America will swoon and declare she's the "model mother" because she's also beautiful.

Well I'd rather have a hard, callous old ***** like Hillary, NOT Palin.

Newsflash, mooseburger eater, Hilly didn't go through all that personal and political struggle to reach that "glass ceiling" only for you to just easily claim this victory for women.

That's pandering and undermining. And smart, independent thinking women can see past this VP appointment.

  2. Well... if i was a female i would have been offended that McCain thinks women are so feeble minded that picking a clearly under-qualified VP just because she has a v****a would get him the Hillary vote

  3. Palin is a token female on the McCain team.

She is in no way a feminist and the policies she espouses are against feminism.

McCain has always voted against anything giving women more equality in American law.

Obama on the other hand has always supported women's attempts to achieve equality under the American legal system.

  4. Tough to say.

McCain:Prolife, so that would be against a freedom that women now have in the US.

Obama:Nothing concrete, I think his economic and health care plans would be deleterious to the nation at large so that would affect women as well, but is not specific to this group.

Overall I don't see how either one is specifically negative for the average woman.

  5. Mccain is known to be a chauvanist pig....married 3X, begged for a divorce from his second wife to marry his current wife...made fun of chelsea clinton's looks when she was underage????? guy is an old f**t with old values....see his pick for VP??

  6. I believe John McCain and Sarah Palin have done the most to undermine the role of women in politics since Geraldine Ferraro.

Hillary Clinton is qualified to be president -- perhaps too qualified:  Barack Obama did not pick her as a VP because he doesn't want a co-president, which is what she would be (and who knows what Bill Clinton would do to worm his way into the White House again!)

Sarah Palin pales in [no pun intended :-)] comparison to Hillary in terms of experience, qualifications, vision, and just about any other way you can think of (mind you -- I can't *stand* Hillary).  She is considered a lightweight and her rambling and totally uninspiring speech last night re-inforced that image. (I really was afraid she would hit a home run -- she barely got it out of the infield).

The McCain/Palin ticket is a joke and will lose.  And pundits will point to Palin in the general election and say "See -- women can win on the national scene."

OK, this is probably not the best argumet, but it's 2:30 a.m.

  7. I haven't  seen neither guy guilty of undermining women.  However, I do believe women are more likely guilty of doing that to each other.

  8. Neither one is undermining the women of America.

Mccain, however, is promoting and reaching out to the women of America by putting Palin on the ticket, something Obama was unwilling to do.

  9. obama since he kicked a qualified woman off the ballot not once but twice first alice palmer and 2nd was hillary, the second time he did it this woman happened to have 18 million votes, all the critical states to win the elections and was polling much better against his republican rival than obama was. if obama was really interested in winning elections he'd hand over the nomination to the person who could win it and thats hill but obama is selfish and sexist as well as being inexperienced and overconfident

  10. Obama had the courage to choose the right person for VP, regardless of the Hillary Clinton hype.  McCain chose to make use of yet another female, in his quest for victory and has therefore lost credibilty.

  11. McCain choose this female because:

    1. Oil fields in Alaska.

    2. Female.

    3. Has not aborted any children.

    4. Christian.

    5. Has sun burn issues on the back of the neck.

What he should of looked for:

    1. Anyone resembling the accomplishments of Hillary Clinton. As much as you hate her no other single women in the history of the united states has made an impact like Hillary Clinton. SHE IS EVEN IN MY SPELL CHECKER! Uhhh but Palin who the **** is that? Palin has squiggly red line under it.

  12. Neither one of them are undermining the women of America.  This issue never has been, and never will be, up for debate.

  13. That has less to do with McCain and Obama and more to do with women themselves.

If they choose to vote for McCain, that is fine.  They just need to make sure its because they believe in his and Palin's beliefs and platform, and not just because Palin is a woman.

It is possible to vote for McCain and Palin for reasons other than she is a woman.  As long as women do that, they are not undermined in any way from McCain's angle.

If they choose to not vote for Obama, they only need to make sure that its because they are turned off by his winning FAIR AND SQUARE over Clinton.  He did win based on the system, not through cheating.

If they choose not to vote for him, they need only be sure its based on issues and not some idea that he "took Clinton's turn."  It would be an insult to Clinton, who did her best and did wonderfully well, to suggest that Obama beat her because she was too weak to overcome him.  She played him on an equal battlefield and lost more on strategy than anything like she was "some weak woman."  Quite the opposite, she is one of the strongest women I have ever seen.

But as long as women vote on issues, no one was undermined here.  And many have been attacking McCain as saying he picked Palin because he believes women are foolish and would vote for a woman no matter how unqualified.

I believe they are looking at in the wrong way.  One would point out that McCain sees just how important women are.  If this is a play to women, it does show respect in acknowledging that they have gone from held down to powerful enough to so influence who the leadership is in America.  So much so that McCain knows he NEEDS them, and Obama also knows this.

  14. I think that in general, women are better off with the democrats than the republicans. Obama and McCain just happen to be the ones running for prez this time around. I don't belive that either one is intentionally trying to undermine American women. However, I belive that McCain choosing Palin is just a gimmick. How dare he think that we are going to vote his ticket because he's got a female VP candidate?!  This is not even going into the usual issues of heathcare, equal pay, milirtay service, abortion rights, family leave and all the other ways in which the conservative stance historically wants to keep women barefoot and in the kitchen without respecting the JOB,

  15. I've only seen the belittling of women perpetrated by one group, and that's Obamacans.

Being pro-life is an opinion.  An opinion does not undermine anyone.

The Obamacans will bring up equal pay, but they have no idea what they are taking about.  If they did know the facts, they wouldn’t bring it up.

Here's the down low on the Equal Pay Act.  It was purposely written to make it sound as if equal pay would be mandated.  However, the Act was written in such a way that no one could actually bring suit against an employer.  The Act was voted on in 1963. Everyone in Congress was male.  So, they pulled one over on everybody.  It's a fact that no one has ever been allowed to take a case to trial.  (I'm an HR professional)

The proposal that came up this year was also poorly written.  It would have allowed anyone who ever thought they had a case all the way back to 1963 to go to trial.  It was ridiculous.  It would have tied up all of our courts and it *could* have put a vast number of small businesses out of business altogether.  As much as I want women (and everyone) to be paid based solely on merit, I don't want to do it if the cost is killing our economy by closing many businesses.

John McCain voted AGAINST the proposal this year.  It was very poorly written.  Obama voted FOR the proposal.  It makes me wonder what the he11 he was thinking!

The Equal Pay Act *does* need to be amended or re-written completely.

FURTHERMORE:  McCain pays everyone on his staff on a merit-based system.  Men and women are paid equally.  Barack Obama does not.  The women on his staff are paid less then the men.
