UNC’s Marvin Austin appears before Secretary of State
University of North Carolina defensive tackle Marvin Austin is said to be appearing before the Secretary of State’s office in order to testify to allegation that agents and financial advisors violated the
Uniform Agents Act.
It has been reported that Austin appeared before the Secretary of State on Friday morning.
The North Carolina Uniform Athlete Agent Act states that an agent must register with the Secretary of State and inform the school’s athletic director 72 hours after they have come to a contractual agreement
with a student athlete. The agents are not allowed to present the students with any gifts or funds that may entice them to sign with them and their agency.
Austin was subpoenaed earlier this month when the State began to look into the roles of agents and academic advisors.
The NCAA, who maintains that members of the football program have been receiving improper benefits, is also investigating UNC.
Allegations have been made that a tutor, who used to work with coach Butch Davis, wrote several papers for Austin, wide receiver Greg Little and defensive end Robert Quinn.
Quinn, Austin and Little are also said to have received improper benefits from agents. Making several trip to Florida for agents parties, as well as receiving funding for a trip to California to attend training
sessions.
Moreover, the NCAA is looking into a relationship between former defensive line coach John Blake, who resigned earlier this month and agent Gary Wichard. Blake is said to have previously worked with Wichard
at pro Tect Management in California.
Currently Austin is serving an indefinite suspension handed down by the university.
Recently South Carolina Gamecocks tight end Weslye Saunders was released after allegations were made that he to received improper benefits and attened a party in Miami with Austin.
