UNIQA Ladies Open 2010 set to start today; Lee Anne Pace is the feared contestant
The UNIQA Ladies Open 2010 is all set to start today in Austria. This year’s event includes eight players standing as tournament winners while seven players from the Henderson money list, marking this tournament to be the most competitive till now. Among the all-stars competing, Lee Anne Pace is much feared by the rest.
The UNIQA Open is being held at Foehrenwald Golf Club from 3-5 September. This golf club occupies an area of 6243 yards and the only update it has received recently is the grass being drained so that the players can play an easier game while putting. As for Pace‘s excellent form, her last week game in Finland gives full proof of it. Lee Anne will certainly play a game worth watching. Her win in Finland is the third of this season.
Out of her last three tournaments, Pace has won the two whereas in the third, she remained runners up. This woman from Mossel Bay also won the Deutsche Bank Swiss Open in June. Her game at the Finnish Open was remarkable with her R4 finishing at 69 at two under par.  The whole tournament was a tussle between Vikki Liang and Lee Anne Pace but at the end Pace took the victory with a 3 stroke lead. Towards the final hole, Pace had a 5 stroke lead but Liang made an excellent eagle leaving the already baffled fans more perplexed. The South African, however, kept her head through all of this and tapped for a par winning.
Lee-Anne Pace seems surprised with her current performances, stating that she had no such expectations with what the results have turned out to be. Pace told the media that she has a surplus in her goals list since, rather than winning one tournament and attaining a spot in the top ten lists, she had exceeded them and was now making new goals. Her past three weeks have been filled with interesting victories making them seem rather magical.
The UNIQA Open has a total purse of 2 million Euros. The South African is currently leading the money roll with rather a huge gap from others. The second in the Henderson Money List is Melissa Reid. Both these ladies will have their eye on the prize money but Melissa’s possible win won’t really make a difference to Annes’ position. Reid had won the Turkish Airline Ladies Open 2010 in May and is now focusing on grasping her second victory after a 2 week break. She has been playing at the Wiener Neustadt Golf Club for the sixth consecutive year.
Pace will be facing seven ladies from Finland who will be led by the well known Nicole Gergley. Last year, Gergley won the Vediorbis/Randstad Open with a 2 stroke lead, hence becoming the first Austrian to win Ladies European Tour. Three Professionals and four Amateurs will be part of the Austrian team. Growssschadel-Fink, Steinberger and Michl will be appearing as professionals while Stutz, Schober, krenn and Gasplmayr as Amateurs.
Meanwhile, after the UNIQA Ladies Open 2010, Pace will be heading to France, China, Korea, and Spain with her tour ending in Dubai. A total of ten tournaments are to be played during this season and the UNIQA open is the most anticipated one.
